Day 4: Vegan at a restaurant

Breakfast: Toast and blueberry jam, coffee with soy milk and a teaspoon of sugar. I also had a bottle of mango juice from the United Arab Emirates. One of the teachers at my school was running a healthy breakfast day with cereal, yogurt, and juice for the kids and peer pressured me into taking something. It may not have been 100% vegan, but it appeared to be on the ingredient page.

Lunch: The end of the sesame-peanut noodles!

Dinner: I bought a groupon with this little experiment in mind for Peace O Pie (http://peaceopie.com/) in Allston. My coupon was for $8.00 for $16.00 worth of pizza. I took along my brother's vegetarian GF, Molly, and my uncle Neil. It was interesting to say the least. We had the Neapolitan which was fresh basil, tomato slices, and organic tofu ricotta. This was one of my first experiences with tofu and it was a positive one. The pizza could have used a little more garlic I thought, but the sauce, tomato, and "ricotta" was good. The only thing is that the tofu ricotta was in really large pieces, and it may have gone down easier (it has a weird texture) if it had been smaller. We also had the Buffalo Chick’n, which had hot sauce, mozzarella "cheese", jalepenos, and chick’n strips. My favorite food in the world is fried buffalo fingers with blue cheese dressing, so I had high hopes for this one. It was good but again the cheese texture is bizarre. Like, it was really soupy (and as Molly said, it could have used a little ranch dressing.) In talking since we went out, the three of all seemed to agree that we would rather have a pizza with a little olive oil, tomato, garlic, and spinach and no fake cheese than those fake cheeses.

I was wondering what made up the cheese that they use, so after a little googling, I found their website, Daiya http://www.daiyafoods.com/ and it's made from tapioca and doesn't have any real preservatives and has 90 calories in a 1/4 cup.
