Rambling Sochi Thoughts

We're a few days into the Olympics and I'm loving every minute.  I'm super excited for the men's hockey to start tomorrow.  Here are my rambling thoughts.

*I thought that the opening ceremonies were great.  I also thought that NBC's color commentary was disgraceful.  The Russian history section glossed over the gulag?  You don't say.  I'm sure that when USA hosts the Olympics again we will skip over the less than stellar moments of our history as well.  Every country has flaws.  The goal of the Olympics should be to put aside embargoes, treaties, and old hatred to come together as one community on the world stage.

*I haven't watched nearly enough events but the ones I have seen have been awesome.  My favorite so far has been the moguls.  Mainly because NBC made me fall in love with Alex Bilodeau shortly before he competed (an won gold). Alex Bilodeau and Brother

*I would kindly like every reporter that has complained about the hotels to STFU.  You can come here and hang with fourth graders and I'll be happy to watch athletes that have been training their entire life to represent their country on the world's biggest athletic stage.

*Finally, I love the #picswithZdeno has become a thing on twitter with athletes from all over the world wanting a photo with the 6'9" Bruins captain.  I also want to note that it was awesome that he got to carry the Slovakian flag.  He looked really proud and happy and it was adorable.

*Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to come up with something for the kids to do when Loui faces off agains

So I'm on the phone at about 3:15 doing an exit interview with yet another disgruntled employee who is leaving. I always shut the door to my office when I'm on calls like this because, frankly, I work with retards who will stand in front of me the entire time I'm on the phone to wait for me to finish. I'm so glad that working in HR, my workspace is private and people respect the confidentiality of my role. Awesome! As I said, I'm on the phone, and my door is shut. One co-worker barges in and tried to get my attention. I point to the phone and mouth "come back later". A second one does the same thing, followed by a third, fourth, fifth, and finally sixth. Through my window that looks into the hallway in my office, I see that a small group has gathered. Finally, Julia (the girl I share an office with) goes out into the hallway to see what's going on. Not much going on, too early for March Madness, NESN doesn't put enough Spring Training on TV, so instead, I'm going to post something that I randomly came across today and thoroughly enjoyed. (promise I'll have a good post Monday morning!) A Nation's destination: Destiny By Bill Simmons Page 2 I woke up thinking about the Red Sox. Answered e-mails, read the paper, showered, shaved, never stopped thinking about the Red Sox. Found that I was so excited, I could barely keep a thought in my head. Skipped through the day's routine doing ordinary things, thinking the entire time, "Holy crap, my life could be completely different in eight hours." Now it's time to join the ranks of the normal baseball fans. Thank God. Is this how parents feel when they're about to have a baby? Like nothing has changed, but everything's about to change?
